They say unless you write a goal on paper it is nothing more than a wish.  Writing it down makes it real.  Well this for me is very true, especially when it comes to running!  I have 16 weeks to prepare for the Salt Lake 1/2 marathon on April 16th.  So I got onto Runners World, signed up for a free account, and set up a training log that will help me be ready.

Today's goal was to run 5 miles @ 11:34 each mile.

Distance I ran: 5 miles
Time of Run: 55:31 minutes (11:06 per mile)
Incline on treadmill: Started at 1, played around with 1.5 and 2.0 and ended at 1.0
(Remember anything less than 1.0 is like running downhill, so at least 1.0 for me!)

I watched "Father of the Bride" on TV and it made the time go faster. Plus I have my new shuffle stocked with tons of trashy clubbin' music.  Thanks for the playlist Candy Sue!
I also learned something about myself and the treadmill:  basically I run minute by minute.  It sounds pathetic really, but I hate the treadmill so much, that I just tell myself that I can get through this minute than so on and so on until I have ran the distance I have set as my goal. Yes, I did this for 55 minutes yesterday.  But guess what, I hit my goal distance, and beat the goal time that I was supposed to run in!

Things I like about the treadmill: I can track how much distance I have gone exactly (this is good and bad, most of the time I cover it up but it's nice to check your progress.)
Also, I can keep my water right there, so I can take small water breaks at every 15 minutes (may not be good for training, but better than not running at all I say!)
Third, there is a bathroom nearby, so I can go and empty all the water I have been consuming and pause my machine.  This is better than going in the bushes, right?

  1. Go you!!! That is way too far for a treadmill run if you ask me. Congrats!
